Alesha Korenev was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at the age of two months in 1982.
His illness is complicated by severe lung function impairment due to a chronic staphylococcal
infection. In 2006, Alesha’s condition was evaluated by cystic fibrosis specialists at
Moscow Institute of Pulmonology. Doctors concluded that he suffers from lung and gastrointestinal
symptoms of cystic fibrosis, secondary bronchiectasis, pneumosclerosis, decompensated pulmonary
heart disease, chronic pancreatic insufficiency, enlarged liver and chronic gullbladder inflamation.
They recommended combined antibacterial therapy, enzyme replacement therapy, anti-inflammatory
and liver medications, mucolytics, vitamin supplements, respiratory and oxygen therapy.
This was three years ago. Today the situation is absolutely critical. Alesha’s health has declined
greatly, and he suffers from shortness of breath. He needs to be hospitalized, but there are no cystic
fibrosis specialists in his home town of Novosibirsk. Should he be hospitalized there, he will be put
on a mechanical ventilator, the treatment option that is usually discouraged for CF patients due to a
high mortality rate. Doctors from Moscow Institute of Pulmonology recommend VENTImotion, a
non-invasive home ventilation device that is used to relieve the patient‘s respiratory pump.
The list price of this device is 6250 Euro. Doctors believe that VENTImotion will help Alesha breathe
and prolong his life. Please, help this strong, intelligent and brave young man breathe!
March 15, 2010. With your help, we have raised enough money to purchase a VENTImotion ventilator for Alesha,
and were able to help his family with the cost of some necessary medications. Thank you for your generosity!
